Projects Formerly the residence of Tom O’Horgan, creator of such shows as Hair, Jesus Christ Superstar, and Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band, among others, this 2,800 square foot Loft commands dramatic views of Union Square, the Hudson River, and the mid-town Manhattan skyline. A complete renovation for the new owner exposed all original building finishes (exterior brick, curved terra cotta-sheathed columns, plaster-coated flat arches) and added a variety of warm rustic materials in harmony with the character of the period architecture - walls, sliding panels, and custom cabinetry fabricated from weathered Barn siding salvaged from a Missouri farm building; a hand-planed 10” White and Red Oak floor; random-laid Piedmont stone and outsized glazed brick tile Bathrooms; Oak and glass doors saved from a demolished Masonic Lodge; a variety of industrial and theatrical lighting including an 8 foot long sconce from an Art Deco theater hung horizontally above the dining table; Kitchen island, free-standing entertainment center, and Bathroom vanity bases constructed of steel salvaged from Ohio factories. An intentional balance of warm lighting, custom-fabricated upholstered pieces, and charismatic flea market finds creates a casually elegant and intimate ambiance.
