Entered through a storefront space on Third Avenue, Beauvais Concepts is a partner to Beauvais Carpets, one of New York City’s leading contemporary and antique carpet showrooms. A modern, industrial entry lobby of 600 square feet leads down to a dramatic 2,500 square foot gallery space underground. A variety of humble building materials – polished concrete slab floors at street level and Fir scaffolding boards below, backer-board walls, diamond-plate steel stairs – combine with a flexible lighting grid to create a textured, theatrical ambiance that offsets the warmth of the woven pieces on display. A back-lit translucent barrel-vaulted ceiling formed from corrugated Plexiglas arches over the downstairs gallery and sheds gentle, diffuse light on the display space below.
