Projects Originally built in 1913 as a Co-operative, this elegant little limestone building features 28 apartments in a variety of configurations. This upper-floor duplex Classic 7 had been denuded of most of its original detail, leaving an opportunity to re-imagine a contemporary residence over-laid upon a pre-war aesthetic. The remnants of herringboned oak floors were restored, in-filled, and reproduced and the original wrought-iron stair was stripped of generations of paint and exposed to the main living space, which was itself opened up to include both Living Room and Dining Room functions. One small remaining cabinet from the original Butler’s Pantry was copied to restore the Kitchen and create a banquette of quarter-sawn Oak. The apartment has been affectionately dubbed “Medicine Hat”, after the home-town of fabled guitarist Robbie Robertson of the Band, beloved to both client and architect.
