Projects Designed while working with Larry Bogdanow, Associates, this weekend cottage in Dutchess County, New York was built as an addition to an existing 1970’s bungalow with the precise dimensions of a trailer home. The strategy was to re-use the original, flat-roofed structure by adding a two-storey house in a traditional vernacular. Thus, the original house remains, while taking on the appearance of an addition to the new house, now reading as the original building on the site. The couple for whom the building was designed differed in sensibilities, which was accommodated by giving the exterior of the house a traditional gabled volume and stained cedar clapboard sheathing, while the interior was kept clean, spare, and modern.
